Guidelines for content
Each Community Content Program has its own Content Guideline which lets you know in plain language what types of material from the publisher's intellectual property you can use in your works and what types of community content are allowed.
In addition there are a few universal limits for all programs. These limits are pretty much what you’d expect. Nothing offensive or pornographic. Nothing that infringes someone else’s copyright or trademark. Nothing libelous.
Create, don’t copy. We reserve the right to stop publishing and selling your work if we think it goes against the spirit of the Community Content Program. All authors should respectfully use the content originally created by the Publishers or other Creators. For example, if a Community Content Creator releases a trilogy of adventures, and another author takes those three adventures, compiles them, and republishes them as a single collection, without substantive original additions or changes, then we would stop publishing and selling that collected work because it adds no value to the community content. It’s simply one author copying another author’s work and looking to make a royalty on it.
Please also read the FAQ further for more information on the use of art and logos in your content.
You can find the Content Guidelines specific to each program here.
Community Content Program AI-Generation Usage Policy
Some community content programs do not allow the use of Generative AI in any products set up in the program.
Publishers that DO NOT allow the use of any Generative AI in products:
- Onyx Path - Storypath Nexus, Canis Minor, Slarecian Vault
- Chaosium - The Companions of Arthur, Miskatonic Repository, Jonstown Compendium, 7th Sea Explorer's Society, Sagas of the North
- Modiphius - World Builders
- EDGE Studios - Genysys Foundry
- Schwalb Entertainment - Disciples of the Demon Lord
Community Content Programs not listed above adhere to the current DriveThruRPG Partner Generative AI Policy.
DriveThruRPG defines “AI-Generated art” as images created through the use of artificial intelligence algorithms and techniques trained on pre-existing data sets. (Examples: Midjourney, Artbreeder).
- DriveThru Marketplaces require partners to set the AI-generated content filter on all products. If AI tools were used to generate any of the content in your title, you are required to indicate this using the Creation Method filter.
- DriveThru Marketplaces do not accept any standalone artwork products that utilize AI-generated tools to make content, or included token, map, or art "packs".
- Products on DriveThru Marketplaces cannot include VTT assets such as Tokens, Maps, Handouts, Image packs, or Videos that are the result of AI generation.
- Roll20 and DriveThru Marketplaces do not accept any product that include any text generated by AI language generators. A final product should be the result of human creativity and not AI generation. Products should begin and end with human writing. AI should be used as a tool and not a replacement. We acknowledge enforcement challenges and trust in the goodwill of our partners to offer customers unique works written with human creativity.
- DriveThru Marketplaces are including "AI prompt" products in the types of titles not accepted to be published.
Images created with generative AI can be used on your cover image or in your product PDF only.
Our Partner Relations team reserves the right to add or remove filters if a title is not properly marked. Titles that do not comply are subject to removal from the marketplace. Repeat offenders may have their publishing permissions revoked. Approval requests may be denied for suspected AI-generation.
A full statement of intent regarding our policy update can be found in our AI Generated Artwork Policy Updates forum post. DriveThru reserves the right to update or modify these policies at any time. Community content program policies are dictated by the publisher that owns it.
