WELCOME TO THE GRIM & PERILOUS LIBRARY
Are you an aspiring writer, and want to create your own characters, worlds, and adventures using ZWEIHÄNDER RPG? Get started by joining the Grim & Perilous Library!
The Grim & Perilous Library is a community content program at DriveThruRPG where you can create and self-publish material for ZWEIHÄNDER RPG and DARK ASTRAL. Creators can sell their fan-made work, offer it as pay-what-you-want or distribute it for free.
Let’s dive into some of the easy questions around the Grim & Perilous Library, shall we?
WHAT CONTENT CAN I USE?
You can use all of the official ZWEIHÄNDER RPG and DARK ASTRAL rules, art, ancestries, cultures, countries, religions, monsters, professions, weapons, writing, campaign seeds, and more. As new games are released and licensed, we will update this list.
WHAT’S MY CUT OF THE PROFIT?
Unlike other programs, we give you 60% of the profit. We care about our creators and that’s why they get the biggest cut! The remainder is split between OneBookShelf (the parent company of DriveThruRPG), Grim & Perilous Studios, and our licensing partners.
WHO OWNS THE WORK I CREATE?
You do! We support creators, and make no claims or demands about your original work. This means if you make something for the Grim & Perilous Library, and want to convert it over to your own RPG system, simply strip out the ZWEIHÄNDER RPG intellectual Property (IP) from your work.
CAN I DO PRINT-ON-DEMAND FOR MY PRODUCT?
Yes. But we have a unique set of house style guidelines and other requirements for your work to be considered for a print-on-demand product. Reach out to us on our Discord to learn more: https://discord.gg/
IS THERE A COMMUNITY WHO CAN HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT?
There sure is! We all collaborate together on the ZWEIHÄNDER Discord. Join other fan creators, members of Grim & Perilous Studios, and the designers of ZWEIHÄNDER RPG to ask hard-hitting questions about making your own community content. The Discord is an inclusive, welcoming community that’s partnered and verified with Discord: https://discord.gg/Zweihander
CAN I BUILD ON OTHERS’ CREATIONS?
Yes, and you should! Creators are encouraged to expand on and to adapt work that others have made. As an example, you can write part two of an adventure you enjoyed, use another creator’s villains, or repurpose community-created mechanics.
But, we want everyone to play fair. If someone’s work inspired you, and you’d like to build on their characters, stories, or settings, you must get their permission, and credit their original work. It helps the entire community grow.
HOW SHOULD I PRICE OUT MY CREATION?
It’s entirely up to you! With the Grim & Perilous Library, you can set whatever price you like for your creation.
HOW DO I ATTRIBUTE ZWEIHANDER OR FLAMES OF FREEDOM?
Our Word and InDesign templates already have the attributions present. Otherwise, follow these guidelines:
(a) On the cover: It must include the terms “Compatible with ZWEIHÄNDER”. The logo is available in the Grim & Perilous Library Art Pack.
(b) On the credits page: You must include these terms on your credits page, “This game product is distributed through the Grim & Perilous Library on DriveThruRPG, in the USA and other countries. Used with permission by Grim & Perilous Studios.“
(c) In the Product title, it must include the terms “Zweihander RPG”
(D) In the Product description, it must include the terms “Compatible with ZWEIHÄNDER”.
I MADE SOME STUFF, NOW HELP ME SELL IT!
Congratulations, and welcome to the cult. Tag your release on social media using #GrimAndPerilous and #ZweihanderRPG. We’ll spotlight the ones we like through our social media channels, home website, and email newsletters.
CAN I USE OTHER ARTWORK?
You sure can! While you can hire artists or purchase a license for alternative art assets, there's also plenty of repositories of artwork and photographs that are free to use online. Be mindful about checking the use rights, as not all the photos in these directories will be for commercial use or in the public domain. In regards to A.I. art, such as Midjourney, Dall-E, Etc., as of right now it is not allowed. When/if The artists who had their works loaded in to train the generation tool have been properly compensated for their Intellectual Property, we would be willing to reconsider.
Grim & Perilous Studios follows DriveThruRPG and Roll20 Guidelines in regards to AI-Generated Writing and Editing. Update July 19th, 2023: While we value innovation, starting on July 31st 2023, Roll20 and DriveThru Marketplaces will not accept commercial content primarily written by AI language generators. We acknowledge enforcement challenges, and trust in the goodwill of our partners to offer customers unique works based primarily on human creativity.
CAN I USE ZWEIHÄNDER RPG ART ELSEWHERE?
No. The art packs are licensed for use in community content submitted in the Grim & Perilous Library.
CAN I REPUBLISH MY PRODUCT ON OTHER ONLINE MARKETS?
No. By engaging in the Grim & Perilous Library community content program, you can only distribute, resell or profit from products borrowing ZWEIHÄNDER RPG IP by selling it exclusively through the Grim & Perilous Library.
If you have any questions, reach out to us at adam@grimandperilous.com
WILL YOU OFFICIALLY PUBLISH MY WORK FOR ME?
Maybe. We do not accept submissions of ideas alone. Show us what you’re thinking by preparing a publication proposal and send it to adam@grimandperilous.com
BUT I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION THAT’S NOT COVERED ABOVE!
Check out this article on community content programs at DriveThruRPG. If that doesn’t answer your question, reach out to us on Discord, we’ll figure it out together.
ONE LAST LEGAL BIT...
While we assume everyone is acting in good faith, we reserve the right to remove any products which we feel violate the spirit of Grim & Perilous Studios, the demands of OneBookShelf, IP violations, and copyright violations without formal notification. If you have any questions about whether your content is suitable for the Grim & Perilous Library, reach out to us on Discord.
